THE GLEN – circa 1860

  144 MiCasa Drive
      Pendleton

The date of construction of this historical home in Pendleton is unknown.  The home was built and first occupied by Dr. and Mrs. Arthur S. Gibbes.  It is known that Samuel Maxwell gave this house to his daughter, Sue, as a wedding gift in 1860.  The wide, columned one-story porch is characteristic of country homes built by the Lowcountry people who came to Pendleton in the 1820s and 1830s.

The house has had several owners in modern times, but the structure has changed very little.  Davie and Ed Kirkley, the current owners, added a master bedroom suite.  Used plank flooring was sought and used.  The kitchen was gutted and modernized.  The upstairs received heat and air for the first time.  Pickets have been added to the front porch, a deck to the rear of the house, and a formal garden.  Sue Pickens would be pleased to see her wedding present today!

246 RIGGS DRIVE

Clemson

This home is located in one of the oldest established neighborhoods in Clemson.  The home was built in the 1950s for Bill and Julia Hunter from a plan out of Better Homes and Gardens.  It was later occupied by the Reiss family.  In the late 1900s, the home was rented for about 25 years.  In 2006, Beth Smith purchased the home.  She redesigned the home and sold it to Larry and Lucy Daniel.  An addition was made, the roof was removed and a second story was added to the home.  What started out as a traditional ranch design turned into a typical country home.  The Daniels decided to add a front patio and fireplace for friendly neighborhood gatherings and to further enhance the much loved spirit of  Riggs Drive

100 POOLE LANE

Clemson

This lovely home in Clemson was designed and built in the 1960s by Virginia Stanley and her son.  It later became the home of Miss Betty Moorman.  In 2004, the home was purchased by Beth Smith.  Ms. Smith redesigned the home and eventually sold it to Pat Hamilton.

The new owner and designer decided to stay true to the original form of the home and keep it a two-bedroom, two-bath cottage.  Ms. Hamilton had the roof raised, a garage added, and the porch enclosed for a garden view to enjoy while dining.  Following these renovations, the home style changed completely from contemporary to a typical, cozy English cottage with a beautiful courtyard garden.
